Hanging grommet and sheer curtains together improves the functionality of your window treatment. Before describing the steps involved in layering these two drapes together, gather the essential tools and equipment for a hassle-free fitting.

Essential Tools Required For Hanging Curtains

How to Hang Grommet Curtains With Sheers

  • A measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Double curtain rods
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws
  • Anchors
  • A level
  • A drill

After gathering all the tools and supplies, follow the steps explained below:

1- Prepare The Window Before Installation

After removing the old window covers, clean the window frames and the glass. To prevent dust or stains, wipe the window frames with a soft, damp cloth and allow them to dry. Remove any objects or wall accents near the windows to facilitate an easy fixing process.

2- Pick The Right Double Rods For Drapes

Choose a double rod with a smooth finish for easy opening and closing of the window covers. One rod is to hang grommet curtains, and the other is for sheers. Metal, wood, and acrylic rods with varying thicknesses are readily available on the market. You need to select the rod whose diameter is about 0.5 inches less than the diameter of the grommets embedded on the upper panel of the window coverings. This will help easy opening and closing of the grommets with sheers.

Fix the Double Rods For Drapes

As grommets have some weight, be careful when selecting the rod. It should be strong enough to carry the load of your eyelet curtains. Take the correct length of the rod that is 2-3 inches larger than the width of the window frame where you are aiming to fix it.

3- Fix The Curtain Rods & Brackets

After selecting the correct dimensions for the rods, ensure the brackets are well-spaced to hang both layers of window drapes. For the proper fixing of rods and brackets, please follow the instructions below.

  • Take a pencil and mark drill holes on the wall where you wish to install the brackets. Use a drill machine to drill the holes in the specified marked area. Before installing the brackets, ensure the holes are level.
  • Insert brackets into the holes using anchors for improved fixation.
  • Place the rods on the brackets according to their length. This rod is used to adjust the sheers to achieve the desired light.
  • Install another outer rod for the grommet office curtains that must be 4-5 inches above the inner sheer rods.

4- Hang The Sheer Curtains

Now, you are done with all that basic work for hanging the drapes. Now, hold the lightweight sheer and spread it along the length of the lower rod. Then hang the rod and adjust the pleats for a nice, uniform appearance.

5- Hang the Grommet Drapes

Once you hang up the sheer drapes, it is now time to install grommet window covers. To achieve this, insert the curtain’s grommet on the outer rod in a way that it thoroughly covers the rod with its fullness. Adjust the curtain along the rod so that it appears like a folded pleat/folding’s to get desired privacy and light control.

The most essential thing while installing the grommet curtains with sheers is to adjust them properly so that they can be operated independently. The sheer is adjusted inside the grommet, very close to the window.

Double Rod spacing is a crucial element for the easy opening and closing of both drapes. If the rods are too close, the drapes will bunch, hindering easy movement on the rods. Too wide rods will show gaps between the two layers of drapes, which look unappealing and detract from the space’s appeal.

6- Clear The Area For Elegance

Clear the area with all leftovers and the equipment. Then stand up at some distance to check out the final look of the curtains, whether they are levelled with their finely adjusted pleats.

7- Final Touch Ups

You can also buy and use decorative elements from Arabic curtains, such as tie-backs, to hold the curtains firmly in place. Additionally, you need to tie the outer grommets in such a way that both sides of the drapes are evenly spaced along both sides of the curtain rods. You can open the lower sheer layer while the upper grommet drapes are attached to the tiebacks, allowing maximum light to enter the room. For neat and formal finishing, open both layers in such a way that the entire window is covered with beautiful, evenly spaced pleats.

Conclusion

Hanging the grommet curtains, along with the sheer, is an easy task, yet it requires attention and care. You need to take the right size of double rods and fix them at the proper place. If you are looking for layering blackout curtains with grommet drapes, then seek professional guidance.
